A history of Lundby kitchen furniture

Here's a brief summary of Lundbys kitchen furniture, in the same style as the bathrooms that were covered in a previous post. I hope someone out there might find it useful. If you have any additional information or find something that is wrong in my descriptions, please let me know.

*********************************************************************************

Lundby/Lerro kitchens, early version ca 1950's-1973
(pictures not mine)

The earliest Lundby (and/or Lerro) kitchen furniture was - in different versions - produced up until 1973. The white/blue version was the most common one, but I've seen the furniture in green, turquoise and other colors as well. The orange/yellow version was the last one to be produced, between 1972 and 1973. Note: these are just sample pictures. There are more parts in more colors.

Continental, yellow version 1974-79/80

The first version of the more modern Lundby kitchens came into production in 1974. It was named "Continental". There is s a slight difference in production from year to year, primarily the placement of the door knobs (as can be noted in the picture above), and the color of the wood on the kitchen cabinets.

Continental, red version 1979-1985/86

This is the second version of the Continental kitchen range, with the same units as its predecessor. This also had slightly different versions from year to year (wood color and knobs placement). Additionally, it had different versions of the cabinets. Some were plain (as the one in the picture), other had cut-out pattern (as the kitchen below).

Continental, orange version 1981-1987

This is the third kitchen in the continental range, and also the rarest. It's possible that this kitchen was produced for the Manor range. In some versions this kitchen has plain kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen with silver/mirror tiles 1984-1997/98

In 1984, Lundby gave their kitchen range an overhaul. This kitchen was produced in several different versions during the 15 years in production.
* White cabinets, light gray counters, gold colored knobs
* White cabinets, dark brown counters, brown knobs
* Dark brown cabinets, white details, dark brown counters.

Kitchen with red cabinets and tan tiles, 1988-90
(not my pictures)

...and of course we need a mystery kitchen :) This kitchen is displayed in a catalogue from 1988/89 and again in 1990. (Thanks to Paige at Lundby Lovers for the correct year!). It was marked as an exclusive. This unit was sold at a swedish web auction, unfortunately before I started keeping track of kitchens.

Kitchen with green tiles and flower pattern, 1998/99 - 2004

This kitchen was only in production for around five years. It has the same units as the previous kitchens, but with lighter wooden details.

Småland kitchen with blue cabinets and stainless steel units, 2006 - 2008
(not my picture)

In 2006, the Gothenburg was given a big make-over, and changed name to Småland. This is the kitchen from the new Småland range. The units are roughly the same as the previous kitchens, but they have been given an upgraded design.

Småland white tile/diamont pattern kitchen, 2009 - 2014

The blue kitchen was replaced with a new Småland in 2009. This version has updated unit designs. It was given a minor upgrade in 2011, when the white diamond tile pattern was changed to a plain white tile. The sink unit design was also upgraded.

Stockholm kitchen with checkered tiles 2005 - now
(not my pictures)

In 2005, Lundby introduced the Stockholm range. This included a big make-over for the kitchen - it contained just two bigger units. The first year the kitchen unit came with a multi colored checkered tile pattern. This changed in 2006 into a green checkered pattern, and in 2010 to the turquoise seen above. The breakfast bar has remained the same throughout the years.

Småland kitchen, green with pink fridge 2015 -

The latest make-over in the kitchen department came with the new Lundby Småland in 2015. New units was released in colors matching the wallpaper in the new Småland dollhouse (pink/bright green). Update: this kitchen was released in white with pink fridge in the fall of 2016, sold as an exclusive.

A history of Lundby bathroom furniture

Since I started collecting dollhouses and furniture, I've been looking for some kind of catalogue of information. There's lots of knowledge online, but so far I haven't found any compiled information. This is my attempt of creating an online resource for anyone who might also be interested in more informations and dates of their Lundby bathroom furniture. This is a work in progress, so if you have any information or pictures that you want to add, it would make my day!

*********************************************************************************

early 1960's - ca 1967
White tile with black seams, yellow porcelain

This bathroom marks the start of the more modern bathroom furniture. It was produced from around 1960 to 1967. The bathroom set consisted of four parts:
* Single sink
* Separate towel rack
* Toilet
* Bathtub

1967-1972/73
Blue tile with white seams, yellow porcelain

1967 was a big year for bathrooms. Lundby started producing two parallell bathroom furnitures. The first one is the yellow porcelain with blue tiles. An early version of this one came with fixed units (see second picture). It consists of six parts:
* Single sink
* Separate towel rack
* Combined sink + towel rack
* Wall cupboard with mirror (not in picture)
* Toilet
* Bathtub

1967-1977
Mahogany walls, yellow porcelain

This set had more parts than the blue bathroom. The new parts are an extra mahogany wall, the washbasin seen in the first picture above, a wall mirror and and two separate wall lights. The washbasin was produced between 1967 and 1971. From 1972, it had a separate sink (just like the blue tile bathroom). The shower was introduced in 1974. Sometime during the period the wood color in the walls was changed from darker to lighter brown - possibly when the sinks changed in 71/72.
All in all, it has the following parts:

* Sink with extra space (1967-70)
* Single sink
* Bathtub
* Toilet
* Wall with towel rack
* Plain extra wall
* Two smaller bathroom wall lamps
* Shower (1974-77)

1973/74-1980/81
Red pattern tiles, light yellow porcelain
(second picture not mine)

This is a Lundby classic. It includes a combined sink/towel rack, toilet, bathroom, shower and wall cupboard. I think this set came in 1973, but the shower was introduced one year later. It's likely that the fixed unit version is older than the separate parts. It has the following parts:
* Single sink with towel rack
* Toilet
* Shower
* Bathtub

1978-1983
Green pattern background, green porcelain, orange details

In 1978, Lundby once again changed the design of the bathroom furniture. Along came the avocado bathroom, in my opinion a real classic. The backdrops are higher than in previous bathroom sets. It has the following parts:
* Toilet
* Double sinks and bathroom mirror
* Bidé with towel rack (brown and dark orange towel, but the version from 1978 had towels in turquoise and orange)
* Bathtub
* Shower
* Extra bathroom wall

1980/81-1983
Wood panel, beige porcelain

This set is very similar to the older set with yellow porcelain. It was only produced for a few years in the early 1980's, so it's quite rare. The design is the older one with the lower backdrops and single sink. It has the following parts:
* Single sink
* Toilet
* Wall with towel rack
* Wall cupboard with mirror
* Shower
* Bathtub

1981-82
Blue patterned walls, blue porcelain

This bathroom was produced for the rare Lundby Manor, and is just as rare as the house it belongs to. It has the same design as the avocado and pink bathrooms, but as far as I know there was only three parts produced:
* Double sinks and bathroom mirror
* Toilet
* Shower

1982-84
Lundbynette - Plain wood

This bathroom was part of the Lundbynette range - presumably for younger buyers. It has four parts:
* Sink
* Bathtub
* Toilet
* Storage unit

1982 World of play

This bathroom was made especially for the World of play-house in 1982. I'm guessing that this was made to introduce a younger generation to the Lundby doll house range.

1984-85
Lundby rainbow

The Lundby rainbow range was presumably the follow-up to the Lundbynette range. It came with a three piece bathroom, and the units were painted wood.
* Toilet
* Storage/sink
* Bathtub

1983
Red/brown tiles with beige pattern, light yellow/beige porcelain
Img 1&2: Photo: Paige Baird (used with permission)
Img 2: Photo: Anu Tuppurainen (used with permission)

This bathroom was sold in Germany in 1983. It's probably aimed for the european market, and was never (as far as I know) sold in Sweden. The bathroom comes in one piece and was manufactured in two different color combinations. There's also different colors on the toilet seats and toilet paper rolls.

1983
Red wood panel, light yellow porcelain

This bathroom is pictured in the same catalogue as the bathroom above, so I assume it came on the mark the same year. It has five parts:
* Single sink
* Towel rack
* Toilet
* Bathtub
* Shower

1984-1997 (at least)
Pink patterned walls, white porcelain

This bathroom is the same design and parts as the avocado/orange set.
* Toilet
* Double sinks and bathroom mirror
* Bidé with towel rack (two red towels)
* Bathtub with built in shower handle
* Shower
* Extra bathroom wall

1984-87?
Light blue tiles with seagull pattern, beige/yellow porcelain

The other new bathroom introduced in 1984 was more rare. This has the older design with lower back, and it was apparently produced with both beige and yellow units. There are five parts:
* Single sink with towel rack
* Toilet
* Shower
* Bathtub
* Wall cupboard with mirror (not in picture above)

1987 - ?
Apricot walls with white waves, beige porcelain

This is a quite unusual bathroom. It's shown in a catalogue from 1987, but with more apricot on the walls. The finished product had white waves. The parts are the ones seen above:
* Sink with towel rail
* Toilet
* Shower
* Bathtub

Junior starter collection, ca 1990

This bathroom was created as part of a starter collection, along with other basic furniture. It was first shown in the catalogue from 1990. Comes in blue, turquoise and pink. There are three parts:
* Single sink with mirror
* Toilet
* Bathtub

Late 1980' -97 (at least)
White tiles with blue stars and floral pattern, white porcelain

This bathroom has been produced in several versions. I don't know the exact timeframe they were produced. One version has white taps, and the other has golden taps. The version with golden taps also has beige porcelain - the other one has white porcelain. The toilets also has different shapes, both the backdrop and the porcelain.

I think it has the following parts.
* Single sink with towel rack
* Double sink and bathroom mirror
* Separate toilet with low back
* Toilet with high back
* Combined sink and toilet
* Shower with white/gold handle
* Bathtub with gold colored handle

1999 -2004
Pink tiles with seastar/shells pattern, white porcelain

This bathroom was the last one with coloured tiles. Some of the parts were produced in different versions, just like its prequels:
* Shower with white handle
* Double sink and bathroom mirror
* Toilet with high back
* Sink and toilet with low back
* Bathtub with gold coloured handle

probably early 1980's
Tiles with cloud pattern, yellow/pink porcelain

This bathroom is quite a mystery. It has two known attempts of dating. One is a picture in the book "Skandinavisk design i dockskåpet" (page 254). The book dates this set to 1967.

There is also an article in The Lundby letter (from We Love Lundby club) from september 2007. This article dates the set to the early 1980's. It also includes a photo of the furniture in its original packaging. This dating is probably more correct.

The set was also produced in versions with blue tile + pink porcelain (with both white and red accents), and white tile/pink clouds/yellow porcelain (perhaps only the bathtub was made in that version). They seemed to have been produced for the Lundby Primevere apartments.

Stockholm bathroom with clear backdrops, white porcelain
2005-2018

In 2005-2006, the Lundby houses underwent a major make-over. So did most of the furniture, including the bathrooms. There are now two ranges of furniture: Stockholm and Småland.

In the earliest versions both towels were pink, so was the rug. In 2010 the units were given makeover. The rug was changed to blue with white dots, and the towels were given a new multi colures stripe pattern (third picture).

Småland bathroom with clear/mirrored backdrop, white porcelain
2005-2018

The new Småland bathroom set was introduced in 2005. This is more similar in design to the earlier bathroom sets. The earliest units had gold taps/shower handles. This changed around 2008 to metal/stainles steel for the shower/bath, and later for the sink. In 2009, a new sink with separate mirror and pink rug/towels was introduced to Småland (third picture). A new free standing bathtub and modernized shower was added (fourth picture) in 2011. The sink and toilet was also given a makeover the same year (fifth picture).

Lundby basic bathroom
Pink: 2017 - 2029
Teal: 2020 -

In 2017, Lundby released a range of furniture (and a dollhouse) for smaller children. This bathroom is from the "Lundby basic" series. It includes a toilet, sink with drawers and a bathtub.

Lundby bathroom
2019 -

In 2019, the Lundby range was given another almost complete makeover. The two ranges Stockholm and Småland became one. That meant another new bathroom, of course. The parts were sold in three different sets, with pink as the accent colour.

*********************************************************************************

Before we finish, let's include some additional furniture for wet rooms:

Early version sauna  ca 1967 - 1974

This sauna comes in an early and a late version. This is the early version with lighting and left facing angle. From 1974 and a few consecutive years, there was a version with right facing angle and no lighting.

Washing machine and utility desk
1981-

From the early 1980's and forward, the Lundby citizens were finally able to do their laundry. This two piece utility room set was on the market for a couple of years before it disappeared, and haven't been replaced with a new one. In later years, the wooden panel was white.
